A UNESCO Global Geopark is a territory that preserves an extraordinary history in its rocks, fossils, and landscapes. But its value does not end there. This history is also closely connected to nature, culture, and the communities that, over time, have shaped the identity of each place.

Geoparks work around three fundamental pillars: conservation, education, and sustainable development through geotourism. The idea is to learn about the territory, understand its value, and find responsible ways to enjoy and share it without putting at risk what makes it special.

This model also helps bring topics such as the conservation of natural resources, climate change, and natural hazard prevention closer to local communities, connecting them with the places where we live and with the way we understand, use, and protect them.

Above all, a geopark is a living territory where geological heritage coexists with nature, culture, and the people who call it home. Its purpose is to conserve and raise awareness of this heritage while promoting education, research, geotourism, and sustainable development, with the active participation of local communities.
